two aerator pumps filling from one thru-hull

Hey guys,

I recently added a 4th bag (bow) to my setup. I ended up using a impeller pump to fill the center bag but wye'd off of the existing thru hull that filled one of the rear bags. The problem is. the impeller pump is too strong and when it's on the aerator pump isn't able to fill the rear bag. or at least i think.

would i solve my problem if i gave the impeller pump a dedicated thru hull and wye'd the two aerator pumps off of the other thru hull? I'd like to avoid getting two additional impeller pumps or drilling a fourth hole for an additional thru hull

thanks in advance

That would work fine. There may be a minor restriction in flow, but it would not even be enough to notice.

My buddy's 07 has two aerators on each through hull. It came like that, exactly the rest of the setup, I have not looked at, but I made a mental note of it incase it ever came up.

Your aerator needs to be below the water line and mounted to the through hull's valve or to an outlet of a "T" if you are running dual pumps off a single thru-hull. If the aerator is any distance from the source, you may experience some air lock. The pumps outlet orientation can also cause some air lock. Ive run plenty of dual aerator and dual impeller pumps off a single thru-hull with zero issues, but I've never mixed the two.

If you are doing a surf ballast setup, consider pairing two pumps that fill sacs on different sides. Odds are they will never be filling at the same time, so no worries about one starving the other.
