Clarion EQS746 gain adjustment

I just got a EQS746 and noticed it has 2 gain adjustments (r&l) for the AUX-input. Where are people setting these gains at? Crank them up? It seems to me that this almost works as a multiplier for your amp gains. Has anyone tested to see at what volume level the eq starts sending a distorted signal? It'd be nice to know where to set it to adjust my amp gains. I need a distortion detector!!

those are to equalize the input levels between the headunit input and your aux input. Ipods for example are typically very weak. So you may need to crank up the input to balance it against your stronger headunit. If your main and aux sources don't sound noticably louder or softer than one another, you don't need to mess with it.
