HELP! wiring up stereo and have some questions - Perko switch

Hey all,

Im trying to wire up my boat so the stereo pulls only from the stereo bank battery and does not kill the starting batter. Below is a list of what I have.

1. Interstate Deep Cycle battery

2. Interstate starting batter

3. 3 wetsounds apms off distribution blocks

4. Perko switch

How do I wire up this system so the stereo only drains the deep cycle battery (unless the perko switch is on all) and so there is no chance of draining the starting battey. Im thinking that the power from the distribution blocks needs to go to the deep cycle battery (switch 2). Then everything else needs to be wired to the Perko switch at selection all? Then the starting battery needs to be wired to the perko switch on selection 1. Is this correct? A diagram would be very much appreciated if anyone has one handy. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Ryan,

Only battery one (start) to Switch position one.

Only battery two (stereo) to Switch position two.

Alternator/starter feed, helm buss supply and ALL audio electronics to the Switch common/output post. Nothing battery-direct other than the Switch.

The only exception would be a bilge pump float switch if applicable (boat is stored in the water) or memory is optional.

When at rest playing the stereo set the Switch to "#2".

When the boat is ready to start and running set the Switch to "ALL".

When the boat is placed on the trailer and in storage set the Switch to "OFF".

Use "#1" if you have a stereo battery failure.

Then the isolation, which will keep the starting battery always in reserve, will be up to how you use the dual battery switch.

Keep it simple.

Well said David.

FWIW, I run the same setup as David mentioned, except I have 3 batts. When the perko is on #2 it pulls from the #2 and #3 batt.

Same here. 2 batts for when the boat is off :)
