'97 Sunsetter runs rough at 2200 rpm, low power.

Recommended Posts

I have the Monsoon engine. Starts and idles perfectly, no noticeable issues at high rpm, but runs very rough at around 2200 rpm and seems to be low on power. Already replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, module in distributor, all with no effect. It sometimes seems to smell rich, especially when accelerating. I don't think it is throwing any codes, the check light has never come on.

Anyone have any suggestions? It is a great boat otherwise, very frustrating problem.

Thanks for any help.

I have a '95 Sunsetter and had a similar issue but it was nothing to do with the motor. It was the prop, I had his a large fish and it slightly bent a ear on the prop and was causing cavatate. It made the motor jump around and really seemed like a motor issue. I took the prop off and had it checked and it was slightly bent. The shop repaired and everything was great. Not sure if it is the same issue but it might be worth a thought.
