Extreme Trailer Wiring Problem

Recommended Posts

JerryT

I have an 2003 extremely trailer with a Pivit Hitch. I started having lighting problems and discovered the pivit hitch had sliced almost all the wires. The hitch has two razor sharp edges inside which the wiring rubs on when the hitch is opened. Anyone have this problem and how to remove the sharp edges. The hitch is stainless, can the edges be grinded down or rounded with a file or grinder? If not what can I put the new harness in so when it does rub against the edge the wires will not be destroyed?

You can round the edges if you want but the wires should be inside wire loom or similar about 12" into the hitch to protect from this.

Pistol Pete

Just a suggestion as I do not have a trailer with a swing tongue but, would it be possible to put a light spring on the boat side of the harness to gently pull the harness taught so that when you put the tongue in the "towing" position, the harness does not have any slack that could get caught in the pinch point?
