What's The Riser For?

Boat: 2011 VLX

What is the purpose of the 3" riser for the drain pump access? It's not needed for clearance issues. I'm thinking about ripping the riser box off and attaching the riser box lid directly to the floor.

I might be wrong but I thought they brought it up that high to cover the swim step bolts.?

I think liljohn is right. I thought about removing the risers as well. As another option, I stuffed another pump in there:

For some reason I can't seem to recognize where this picture is taken in the boat. Is that on the port side near the trash can? please educate me.

somebody should have trimmed that carpet better. LOL

It`s in the very back of the rear lockers. ( up against the transom)
