Anti Seize recs for G3 tower bolts

Recommended Posts

2010 23 LSV with Illusion G3 tower. I have the standard allen head bolts the tower came with originally. I pulled the bolts to lower the tower for a road trip and had a difficult time getting the bolts back in. Ran a tap into the holes very carefully and then able to get bolts back in place. What anti seize compound should be used? I think the bolts are stainless and the tower feels like aluminum. Is a zinc based lubricant advised due to galvanic corrosion? I saw Bakes has hand knob replacement bolts that are made of 'solid billet aluminum'. What lubricant should be used if I purchase that product? Much thanks for any help in this area.

You want to use this type of anti seize for anything stainless or aluminum. Most people don't know that you should use this anti-seize when doing spark plugs on hammerhead motors (aluminum heads)

Hope this helps you out!

Just FYI, I had to have Malibu replace my tower for just this reason and it was the first generation G3....a bolt inside the tube broke where it hinges. The inside was getting really stripped out. My build of my boat was Aug.Sept 2009 for my 2010 247 LSV. I had them put the 215lb gas shocks in both sides after they replaced the tower with Generation 2 of of the G3.....I have 4 Pro 60's on the tower I have to lower my tower all the time. I reccomend you have someone hold the tower as you screw in the bolts otherwise you will strip out the insides. I also ended up getting the Billet handles but still use the Allen to tightened it up.

PM if you like more detailed info.

Hi, I might have the same problem you had with your tower. but many years later. I guess warranty is not an option for me, the eye bolt that goes from the pivoting bolt to the silver cilinder broke! is it the same that happened to you? there is no way to fix it??

permatex is awesome.  i used it on my aluminum mag wheel lugs before it left dealership in’14, till this day when i change a tire they loosen like they were buttered ( and i dunk trailer twice a week in brack water) , i also used it on my quick release knob threads on my axis tower and til this day not a hint of corrosion on wheels or tower  ,  only did it once on tower and if i mistakenly drop one on cushions i still have to clean the blemish it leaves behind so still there after 5 years
