'95 Sunsetter has sudden power loss above 25mph

Recommended Posts

While driving the boat at 20 to 30 mph the Bu' suddenly bogs as if it's not getting gas. Then it kicks back in again. She tows fine below 20mph. Just changed fuel filter to try and fix her. My friend suggested it might be bad gas (ethanol). The problem seemed to go away a bit as we towed throughout the day. Any ideas?

I did replace vacuum hoses which were getting nasty. The fuel filter has a nib that was sort of plugged with a guey dusty substance. P

She was just tuned up and ran fine for me on the first outing. The temp outside was mild so i doubt vapor lock.

fuel pump?

How long has it been since the carb was rebuilt, if you have a carb?

If so, it could be a power valve issue in the carb or an internal vacuum leak. 20 - 30 should be when the secondaries start to open. If the power valve is sticking or not working, there is not enough fuel to mix with the air when the secondaries first open, then the jetting takes over.

Thanks thats helpful. Cleaned and replaced the hoses going to and from the fuel pump and carb it seems to haver cured it.
