Transmission Overheating

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I recently purchased a 2011 Wakesetter 247 that has the 410 hp motor. We spend a good deal of time houseboating at Lake Powell. the lake is large and we take many day long excursions with serveral boats that take us out 25-50 miles from our campsite. Here is the problem, while driving at cruising speed between 35-38 mph (4500 rpm) the transmission temparature warning light came. I promoptly shut down the motor to allow the transmission to cool. This happened the only 2x that crusied at that speed for any extened length of time. I read in the ZF manual that the max RPM is 5500, but no where can I find what a sustainable operating RPM is. The excursions require 6-8 hours of driving in a day, and often are a 1-2 hours of cruising at a time.

My engine temps were fine in both cases (158-160 degrees) so I believe that I am getting flow through the cooling system.

Can any one tell me if they have had a similiar experience? Or does anyone have any thoughts on my problem? The tech at the dealership beleived that a good sustainable speed would be 4800 to 5000 rpm. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks

Mark

I just bought a new 23 LSV, ran up 10-12 hours under little load. Went out the other day and was almost full throttle. Transmission fault light came on saying overheating. Sat for a bit then went to get back on plane. Same thing with overheating. Limped back to dock. Took boat into dealer and they discovered that on top of the transmission there is a bleeder to relieve pressure off the tranny. There was some wiring sitting on top of the bleeder not allowing it to vent, causing the housing to heat up. Wiring was rerouted away from bleeder and all is fine now. This is what happened to me, it is a quick check if you want.

Northern.
