Fuel Economy for monsoon

Recommended Posts

My Monsoon seems to be burning a ton of gas.... I know you have to pay to play but it seems excessive, more than usual. Is there any specific condition that would cause it to burn more fuel? It seems to be running fine. I've been measuring my fuel as a put it in, seems to be burning 7 to 8 galloons an hour. Mostly slalom or wakeboard but nothing different than I always have. Any ideas or something to make it better. I'm more concerned about the engine than the price of gas.

Carbed or fuel injected?

When was the last time it had a real good tune up?

Everything else is still equil? Same prop? How about where you are buying your fuel from?

Same size crew and weight in the boat? You didn't go on a donut and beer binge this past winter, did you??

You are measuring this off your enginer hour meter and you sure the calculations are correct?

We burn roughly 5-7 gallons per hour doing a mixture of skiing surfing and boarding, so it doesn't sound like you are too far off

Thank you Pistol Pete for your artwork..... once again!

BTW Pete, just got back from the Dixieland Fly-in near Birmingham, Alabama. If any of you were on Lake Wedowee this weekend & saw a few dozen foil riders tearin it up..... your welcome. And thank YOU!

Seems about right.

Here is my 2000 Monsoon fuel usage gauge...

LMAO! It could only have been better it it was shown in dollar signs

$- Idle

$$- cruising

$$$- wake boarding / slalom skiing

$$$$- surfing / bare footing

$$$$$$$$$$$$$- tubing-- you should stay away from this one.

Thanks maybe it's just my imagination. I probably need a pro tune up anyway

Are you noticing a black residue from your exhaust? I had an issue where the fuel pressure was way to high and was causing an excessive amount of fuel through the engine making it run really rich. Check the screen in your fuel pump. If it's blocked the excess fuel pumped is not returned to the fuel tank but forced in the engine.

Assuming average use, and little to no WOT, that seems about double what it should be ( or double mine).

did a dealer diagnose that? IT would seem to me that a rich condition would be ECM related, not fuel pressure related as the amount of fuel sent for each fuel charge is related to the injectors, which are told how much fuel to shoot by the ECM. I've never heard of "extra" fuel making it past an injector due to over-pressurization. ...but I've certainly not heard of it all.

OP, I'd let dealer run ECM codes for a fault. Could be an electronic reason you're running rich. Lack of fuel can be mechanical, excess fuel, in my opinion, probbaly electronic on a fuel injected engine.
