vacation to lake Oconee or Lanier?

We are planning a trip first week of August to either lake lanier or lake oconee. We are looking on vrbo.com for a house on the water to rent. Anybody here boat/live/vacation around either of these lakes? Any pros cons to either one? Any suggestions on where to or where not to stay/eat/play?

Lanier will be a bit croweded due to its location to Atlanta, you might also want to check water levels at Lanier as it almost went dry a couple of years ago.

I dont know much abour Oconee except even during the drought it stayed close to full.

I have used VRBO in the past with good results on Lake Jocassee in SC. Good luck and have fun,
