Pulling boats with my BU

Wake My Day

Recommended Posts

I have seen a few boats over the years being towed back to the boat ramp when they won't start. Now that I have my new to me 2006 23 lsv, I was looking for input into where I should attach the ropes if I have to tow a boat behind mine. I have the center tubing rope connection on the transom, I have the rear pop up cleats or the two rear eyelets for clamping down to the trailer. Has anyone towed a boat with there BU's. If you did what did you attach too.

Thanks

I have pulled a boat from the pylon. Not the best spot, but the boat was small about 14 foot and I towed it with my boat just in gear. The preferred spot is to use your center tubing rope on the transom rear eyelets. Also that's what the manual says to do.

The stern eyelets are best.

I have towed several boats in the past.

The main thing is to use the LINE from the boat you are towing.

The reason is that the knot gets really tight and it is hard to untie later.

I have tied a good bowline in the other guys rope 3 times in the last 10 years.

The last two , a ski nautique and a 24' cruiser really tightened up the knot.

That way I can just pop the bowline into the carabiner. When I get him to the ramp I can just throw him his line and get out of the way.

I keep a variety of caribiners in my boat for towing two skiers at once from my eyelets.

The reason I do this is the ropes do not tangle when you have one from each stern eyelet.

Yes I want to have the knowledge on how to tow with my new BU before I'm out there and a poor sole needs a tow.

Be careful ... go slow and make sure you have a rope up to the task. Neighbor was towing a stranded boat, rope broke and came back and got his kid in the eye ... he lost some of his vision.
