You'll have to drop the rudder out of the housing, disconnect the transmission and shaft at the coupler right after the transmission, then pull the coupler off the shaft using the transmission coupler an impact socket and some longer (greased) bolts.

Decent info here http://www.skidim.blogspot.com/

You can have a shaft straightened at a machine shop, but you will most likely need a new strut.

This is the hard part, but isn't terrible.

Isn't the shaft offset enough to clear the rudder so you don't have to remove it (the rudder)?? I haven't done it on my Malibu but I have on older Inboards.

Every late model boat I've pulled a shaft out of the rudder had to come out too. Haven't worked on anything from that era, but if it does that is great, one less thing to do.

it can be....

Def try using socket but that age boat it could be stuck...if so, get skidims shaft puller....it's an incredible tool and you can use it to remove strut bushings too, which if you have the shaft this apart, you may as well do while you're at it.
