Custom hatch opening on your carpet saver?

I have a leak in my boat...the water does not all escape the boat through the back drain plug. Seems like the lowest point is where the center plug goes. Anyways, I always feel that is the better plug to use on a regular basis.

My carpet saver covers that hatch and I find it a nuisance to pull the carpet back.

I was considering having a local carpet place cut out a section over the opening for the center hatch. Has anyone done this?

Topic for another thread will be where all the water in my bilge comes from and that I am considering another bilge pump for the forward area.

Yea, I've thought the same thing. And you have like 3' more carpet saver than I do.

I'm sure it can be done. I've had carpet binding done for my wife's car. As I recall it was like $2/foot.

As for the leak, first place to look is under your rear, center seat. Have your wife put the boat in gear, at idle speed, and stick your head underneath the v-drive & see if you can notice how much the prop packing is leaking. Lots of threads with suggestions on this. Pretty typical problem after a handful of years on these boats. Especially if their stored them dry.

Another possibility is make sure all the ballast pumps are screwed tightly, one of mine was loose and leaked pretty good. I don't use the center drain plug for a couple of reasons, 1) inspection stations for mussels want the rear transom plug removed, just easier to not argue about it, 2) there is a lip on the floor that prevents all the water getting out, 3) it didn't do any better than the transom plug and the it's just more convenient imho.
