I was looking at early 2000's V or direct drive for a replacement boat but i found a good deal on a 05 21xti,probably going to pick it up next weekend.Anyways it has the factory MLS ballast and the wedge.Where are the ballast tanks located? Also where is the packing gland located i assume under a floor panel? One more for those whove ridden behind them whats the wake like? I never used the rear tanks or the wedge in the vlx while wakeboarding so iam hoping the wedge and ballast in the xti will give me somewhat close to what iam used to.

I have not been on the 21 ft version but i own a 23 xti and with wedge down and rear tanks full it throws a very "rampy" wake. adding people to the rear seat area make it even better. I removed the center ballast tank for ski storage but may put the bag back in this year if my kids want more air.

I have the 2005 21 Sunsetter xti, which sounds similar to what you are looking at. Mine only has the mid ballast tank. I think the 23 adds the rear ballast tanks. It has a decent wake with the ballast full and the wedge down, but that is coming from someone who has only owned a direct drive slalom boat before the bu.

Personally I think it is a good all around boat for a family but I don't think it will be your competition wake boat.

So is the ballast a bag in the ski locker or a hard tank like the vlx?

My 07 23 xti has hard tanks which are under the rear seats. I also have a bow tank under the playpen. I ordered mine with the diamond hull though. The floor panel needs to be removed to access the shaft seal, not a big deal.

I like the wake, but don't have a lot to compare it to. A friend of mine had an 04 21 xti , but it only had a sack in the ski locker, it may have been a sunsetter because it was on the diamond hull and I don't think he cared about wakeboarding. Try to PM 69slalom he has a 21 xti wakesetter.
