Low Voltage Alarm?

Recommended Posts

I have an intermittent alarm going off when i started/ ran it for the first time this year. I checked the oil first as the gauge was bouncing around. I shut it down and checked the impeller, fine too. The voltmeter reads less than 12 volts and i am pretty sure that my alternator is not charging the battery. hence the low voltage alarm? My question is what connections should i check before testing the output on the alternator? Someone mentioned checking the ground on everything because this can create many weird problems, also how tight should the serp belt be? Gracias "Crew"!

I would check the voltage output voltage of the alternator with the engine running with a DVM. Also check the battery voltage with the boat not running. The alternator output should be higher than the battery voltage with the engine off. If the alternator isn't putting out at least 13 volts, pull it off and have an autoparts house test it.

Check all electrical connection, battery, starter, alternator. Are they clean and tight?

I checked all connections, load tested battery, checked alternator output, all good. Boat comes up to temp and stays pegged at 160 even hard runnin today.

Oil pressure gauge bounces a bit ( and sketches me out) but stays steady when under load. Everything checks out, but this alarm is intermittent and driving me crazy. A buddy is bringing his tech-mate over monday to check for codes from the ecm? This is my first mallibu and thought this may be something someone has experienced before? Thanks for the responses. I will post up when i solve it. Its nice to search through these threads and find solutions!

under how much power are you getting alarm? idle? when did you last change oil? viscosity? some later monsoon had issues with oil pressure alarm which is different than gauge. it's a simple fix if that's it. A heavier oil might be in order. For example, indmar wants hammerheads and 8.1s with straight 40 weight to avoid triggering alarm.
