is it possible to upgrade the drivers seat in an 89 sunsetter?

if so, what model seat will fit and where is it possible to find the new seats..

thanks for any help.

I installed a 2005 version seat in my '94 Echelon. Not the same boat as yours, but I am very happy with the results. Very comfortable seat and it bolted right in. Chee made the seat for me, did a great job. The Echelon has a raised fiberglass platform that holds the seat rails so the existing rails bolted to the bottom of the new seat.

Yep, mine is a 2007 Response seat that Chee matched to the custom interior when rugger had the interior put in. It is awesome. Thumbup.gif I highly recommend it!

One of the best boats in the world right there.

Kind of a jog on the thread, but MA, what carpet did you use / where did you get it / how difficult is the R&R on that project? Awesome looker!

Well rugger gets the credit for the interior. I know he did a lot of work with Chee before they started stitching and cutting vinyl and carpet.

The boat was actually back at the Merced Malibu plant for the carpet and interior install in 2007. I think the carpet is the standard Malibu carpet. I'm not sure of the weight. Hopefully rugger can chime in with details.

Man good on Rugger for getting the ol Setter into Merced! Wish the interior on my 89 was done to that quality. Yours is a 10 mine was a 7. I didnt have my carpet redone but that was on the to do list with new stringers! Had to flog it before I spent more that a new boat would cost me!

Hopefully, someone will chime in on how much of a PIA project a carpet replacement job is. I can get it clean, just lost the fluff element so it feels pretty hard. I have used a wire brush to fluff it back, but that does not last very long. Any suggestions?

That's a killer color scheme! Do you mind posting the color codes? I'm planning to redo the skins on my 98 Response. Also, do you have current contact info for Chee? Thanks!

It is an awesome scheme. I love it. For codes, rugger might have them. He and Chee designed and installed the interior. Might be worth shooting rugger a PM. I'll PM you Chee's contact info.

Wasting time on the iPhone at the Vegas

Airport right now so I don't have access to the codes. It was whatever colors matched my Photoshop hack the best. :)

I want to say it was their standard regal red, and then I went to the darker grey (dont know name) matched with the whitish color which had the M grain texture. The patterns were mostly straight lines angles that matched the 87 gel best. My recommendation is to swing by a dealer and write down the names of the colors you like on the new boats. It made a huge difference to go to a darker grey for instance. Richer colors.

I think simple designs look the best on the older boats.

Dont know if that helps at all. when in doubt go with chees recommendation. He pretty much told me no on part of it and went with what he thought would work better. Ha ha

There's a reason I asked MA for first crack at buyback. ;) MA has already made it better - and can't wait to see the next mods. I'm biased but still love that boat.

Carpet is easy to replace, but hard to do perfect IMO. Essentially just buy marine carpet and use the best adhesive you can get. Kind of like house carpet, the heavier the carpet the more it costs. I don't recall the name of the adhesive stuff Chee and his buddy used (they did the bulk of it with the interior), but they gave me a can for extra stuff. I wasn't thrilled with the seams around the motor cover hatch, where there are lots of angles coming together. But then I looked harder at the brand new boats and realized none are perfect. If you pull out carpet -- keep it in one piece and use as a template.
