replace impeller

Quick question: Impeller failed. Opened up the housing and pulled out impeller (easy thanks to other posts on this --wd40 and cranking twice). The impeller looks like a chewed up dog toy -- most of the spines are gone. Felt around in the housing but could not find them. Where do I need to look to make sure I get them all out. I saw on other posts something about a line between pump and the trans (but not sure what this is). I see the large hose coming off the pump. Do I need to flush anything out, pull hoses (if so, which ones), or did this somehow get into the engine/trans that could cause some real damage? Its a 2002 VLX with 350 monsoon. Thanks in advance. Dan
