Morse control cable

I just finished installing PP on my 1996 Sunsetter VLX. I need information on the control cable. I had to convert the system to pull throttle instead of a push throttle. I have learned the hard way that PP only works on a pull system. (My local dealer nor PP ever mentioned this to me.) My boat is one of the first V-drives (if not the first)by Malibu. I have heard that the controls were changed in 97 to accomodate PP. Anyway, I can convert the shifter and cable with no problem. The problem now is that the control end of the cable is too long to fit into the shifter by about 2 inches. Can you purchase a cable that is shorter for this modification? The Morse manual that came with my boat does not mention needing a new cable. This may be a Malibu modification. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!
