Boating near Mexico City?

Recommended Posts

TOAST

Anyone have information or experience boating/riding near Mexico City?

I heard from fellow TMC member, Obolio, about Lake Teques and have seen promising info on the net about that spot. Anyone have any add'l info/experience?

We are moving to Mexico City for a few years and have pretty much decided we'll need to sell our 'bu. (haven't found a practical way to ship it, doesn't seem to make sense to store it for several yrs)

We thought about buying a new 'bu in Mexico, but understand they sell at a real premium, then we have the problem of shipping/selling it in a few years. So I'm looking for info about renting boats on Lake Tequesquitengo (say that 3 times fast) or other options.

Know that may be a bit of a long shot -- but thought I'd throw it out there to the 'crew.

Appreciate any ideas or suggestions.

There is another nice place close to Mexico City called Valle de Bravo in the direction to Toluca, up in the mountains and bit more chilly in the winter but great to rent a weekend house or join a Club Nautico. Teques on the other hand, is warm all year round, the area is more arid.

And yes, you are right, buying a new boat in Mexico would have high sales costs on top of the US price and local taxes. Send your boat to the border and then drive from Mexico in a weekend to get it in, far less expensive. You can sell it to me when you leave Mexico ! :innocent:

I was in Valle last year and rented a vibrating MasterCraft with driver, I'm not sure you can rent one for you to drive and in good shape.

Feel free to contact I live in Queretaro but have a friend in Valle. I drive 2.5 hrs to Patzcuaro lake on the weekends, further southwest from Mexico City.

Hyjack,

I was in Queretaro about 6 months ago, ate at a place downtown on a square sorrounded by ficus trees. Cant remember the name of the place but the food was great and the people we ran into were wonderful. Also in Toluca and Mexico City on the same trip. Quite enjoyable actually.

end Hyjack

Thanks Robertiux -- we will have to check out Valle de Bravo too. . .

Not sure we have what it takes to drive the 'bu down from the border. Sounds a little rough in the northern states right now.
