Broken Key

Recommended Posts

rizyan

I have a 1988 malibu skier and my friend accidentally broke the key off in the ignition. Does anyone have any cheap suggestions to fix this? I was thinking:

1. Take the ignition off and see if a local locksmith could get the end of the key out. The only problem is I don't have a spare key.

2. Find a used ignition off the internet somewhere like eBay.

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Ryan

Time to upgrade to keyless

I haven't seen an '88 skier dash, but you should be able to find a ew replacement ignition lock and key similar to what you have. West marine had quite a selection for what I would consider reasonable prices.

Just replace the ignition.

Just replace the ignition.

Take the key barrel to lock smith. They pick out the broken part and cut you a new key using the two parts. I've done just this with a broken car key. Only charged about 2x cost of a simple key cut job.
