Legal weight capacity?

Recommended Posts

Boats less than 20 feet are required to have a cap plate to display the max capacity allowed, however boats over 20 feet still have max capacities but they just don't have to have a capacity plate displayed.

So here's the golden question, how much is it for an 89 sunsetter? I am a fan of wakeboarding and generally you try to weight the boat down, but I would like to know where I am in relation to the rules. Any help on what it is or where I can find it would be great. Thanks!

My 88' Skier is pretty close and my data plate says 6 people or 1200lbs. With that said, we had 4 people and 1400lbs of water in it on Friday. Whistling.gif

I bet your would be more like 8 or 10 people (1600-2000lbs)

I'm just really confused how the heck you're supposed to know once you don't have the capacity plate that explicitly states the number. The DNR must be able to look it up somehow.

Perhaps the DNR doesn't bother heckling you if your boat is over 20 feet? I'm sure some people with nice wakesetters can give me some info there on whether or not DNR has given them grief over the weight.

see the resources/diy section then click on 'boat specs'

Thanks a bunch, I'm going to assume all capacities assume a person is 200lbs, so I guess we've been within the law so far or slightly out of it. I spose I can always say those sacks weigh less than they really do Whistling.gif

Thanks for the info, very helpful !
