Shaft packing diameter for 96 Response

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I am getting ready to install new packing at my prop shaft. I am going to go with the gore packing. I have some packing that the previous owner had given me with the boat (it is pretty dry) which measures 3/16". Is this indeed the right diameter for a 96 Response at the drive shaft. Is it the same diameter for the rudder shaft?

Nobody has done this?

I've done the gore replacement, but not with '98 response - not sure enough to answer before.

I know I used 3/16 for my '01 Sunsetter LXi & if you have 1 1/8 shaft, that's what you'll need.

I know some of the earlier models had 1" shaft, but believe that was well before you time.
