Problem pulling my stock prop

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 wakesetter, and still have the original 4 blade prop on the shaft. I purchased the acme prop puller and i am 98% sure i am using it correctly , but the prop does not budge off the shaft

1- took out the pin

2- backed off the nut (almost completely off)

3- marked the back of the shaft to make sure ne prop doesn't go on too far

4- placed prop puller on the back of the prop and adjustment nut on the end of the shaft, and started cranking. (i am from the school of "don't force it" so i have only cranked down on the prop puller about 3/4 of what i can do, but something doesnt feel right.)

Any helpfull hints ??

thx

Your gonna have to crank it a little harder. Or you can pop the end of the puller with a hammer. It's a tapered fit & since it's been in place for 8 yrs now, it's gonna be a little harder to remove.

get a hammer and hit the head of the bolt on the puller a few times then tighten the bolt a bit more alittle hit again.

With the traditional C-clamp type puller, which it sounds like you're using, try hammering on

the frame of the puller, that part perpendicular to the shaft, back towards the transom/prop.

You'll get a loud PING sound if you're doing it right. Then, after every two or three blows,

try to tighten the prop puller nut down by a slight bit more.

Check the "Tech & DIY" Forum. Pete has included a good write-up on "Propeller removal and

installation."

Mine don't stay on anywhere near that long boating in the Willamette. I guess that's why mine have always come off easily. :)

Just keep cranking on the puller until your eyes pop or the prop does.

That will break your puller if you crank to much. Look at PistelPetes link with using the hot water and hammer. Works like a charm.
