Malibu LED's

Recommended Posts

I went to my dealer and asked them to put on "MALIBU BRAND" LED transom lights. They gave me a price I thought it was expensive but decided to do it anyway. Went to pick up the boat and guess what, they installed after market LED's. The explaination was Malibu is having warrenty issues with there LED's melting so he saved me the warrenty hassel. As any good consumer I contacted Malibu. According to customer service they have never heard of any issues with the Malibu LED's. Has anyone out there heard of melting problems with the 2009 Malibu LED's???

Thanks !

As I understand it LEDs run very cool. And there is an overheat circuit that will trip to prevent the lights from overheating & being damaged.

I have the 6 LED version sold in 2006 & 2007. Prior to that there was a halogen version. And now there is a 9 LED version available. Would be interesting to hear which ones he thinks he's preventing you from owning.

So what lights did he set you up with?

If your dealer has melted lights its because of an install error. These lights don't draw. Enough amperage to melt even the wire jacketing. I'd say it was because they have been on back order with malibu for a while.
