Power Wedge Damage

Recommended Posts

I have an 08 Wakesetter VLX with the power wedge and hit a submerged buoy over the weekend. It ripped the 2 cylinders from the pins (lug ripped out on the cylinders), tweaked one arm and bent the foil. It appears that it can be repaired. Has anyone had a damaged wedge bent back into shape before? If so, how did you tell the repair place to shape it? I don't remember if the foil is flat or had a slight bend in it. Also, can the rear part of the clyinders be replaced that has the lug or do I need to replace the entire cylinder?

I was fortunate that the buoy only caught the right side of the wedge. The damage could have been alot worse.

I think the top of the cylinder is made to break away, they can be replaced without replacing the cylinder. As far as reshaping the wedge, I have not heard of that before, keep us updated on how that goes.

While the top of the cylinder is the weak link, they are not meant to break away and you can't buy the top piece. I talked with the manufacturer and they will not sell the $10 plastic cap as they consider the cylinders "not user serviceable". It took me all of five minutes to pull it apart, and would take another five to replace the top if you could buy the piece.

another member here had theirs break without hitting anything, the dealer replaced just the top caps. Im sure is is not something you can buy yourself but at least if you have to pay for the repair you dont have to buy a new cylinder if you have the dealer fix it.

Thanks for the responses. I will check with my dealer about replacing the end caps.

Anyone have any experience with straightening a slightly bent wedge?
