Ignition coil replacement

Recommended Posts

I wanted to replace the stock ignition coil with a high performance MSD or Accel coil to get better spark and fuel efficiency out of my 93 euro skier. Any risks to the electrical system or ignition system by doing this? Has anyone tried this and seen any performance improvement? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'd be interested to hear if you notice a difference if/when you make the swap...

I had brought this up last year and didnt get much traffic on it then.

There are no risk to any of your systems by adding this, it can only improve if installed and working correctly. Just swapping the coil will not net you much of an noticable increase. You might pick up some fuel efficiency, but some of that will be just the fact that it is new and not worn like the one you have now. The biggest bang for the buck would be to install an MSD control box to go along with your new coil. something like this

If you do that might as well go with new cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires and have a completly fresh ign system. You would see an increase in fuel econ, power but again in a ski boat it would be hard to feel the diff.
