Dashboard 'bubbles'

Recommended Posts

DeltaDan

When it is hot, the dash on my '06 Sunsetter forms a bubble (about 3-4 inches) under the vinyl on both the passenger side and now the driver side. I brought it into the dealer once and they said they were instructed by the factory to try to stretch it out. I was going to bring it in at the end of last year, but the dealership has since gone under.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I don't get a "bubble", but I have spots where it looks like the curve of the windshield created a focused point and made a couple small burn marks. We have been trying to get it to duplicate it and get some kind of a picture to get the top of the dash replaced under warranty.

Happened to my boat as well. Just had the driver and observer dash pods replaced under warranty over winter.

The vinyl separates from the plastic underneath. Like bubbles in window tint.

I haven't had this problem, but I used to work for an auto supplier that designs, develops, and manufactures dashboards.

Certainly the manufacturing processes are different however we still had delam issues sometimes with our soft panels.

If have a syringe, you can just poke a tiny hole in the vinyl and inject some adhesive (depending on how high the bubble is-may have wrinkles if there is too much stretched material)...I'm not sure what kind of adhesive would work best for this application (not sure what the "skin" and "substrate" materials are in this case) but we used a silicone based adhesive for our applications.

The dealership I got the boat from is out of business and Cope/McPheters did the services stuff. Got a hold of the new warranty guy in the area, real nice guy - He is optimistic it will be covered. I am waiting to hear back from Malibu.

Looks like Malibu will be taking care of this - I will be dropping the boat off next week.
