Manual wedge - Speed limit

Hi all,

Im still a bit new o my '05 LSV, and I usually wakeboard with my son using the ballast only, but as you may already know, we are looking for a bigger wake. Mi (dumb) question is; Is there a speed limit for the wedge to be down? or can I use it at 22 - 22 mph?

Thanks a lot and Saludos from Mexico

Luis

im sure there is a limit to the bolts holding, I wakeboard at 23.5mph with full ballast and wedge, with 400 in each locker and it is fine.

you're fine at 22. I don't know whether your upper range was a typo, but 22 is fine, but there is a speed limit. there are many opinions on that. Generally when the boat begins to porpoise, you're going too fast, depending on weighting, but I would never exceed 25 with wedge down.

I think he was just being very specific, and the range included significant digits that he didn't show Yes.gif

The Malibu manual for the model year 2005 states not to exceed 30 mph with the wedge in the down position.

That should burn up a fair amount of fuel.

Good post, I never thought about that. I ran mine several times wide open for a minute or 2 with full ballast (900lb mls) and the manual wedge down. I guess that wasn't smart, but I think everthing is fine. (Where's the smiley that's crossing his fingers?)

Same here. There's been a few times where i've forgotten to pull the wedge up and have made a mad dash across the lake well over 30+ mph. Whistling.gif Didn't seem to hurt anything other than my fuel economy perhaps.

How many bolts are there on each side of your wedge? My two bolt per side wedge broke twice at 23 mph. I replaced it with a three bolt per side unit. Still, at 23 mph the head of one bolt broke off. No damage to the strut on that one. All repairs were under warrantee, so I did not sweat it. Take the info you gather here and determine what speed you think is safe.

your water must be thicker than ours or your wedges kept getting pulled off the same shelf. :) Mine has 4 bolts that attach the plate to the transom, 2 actually hold the struts to the plate, and 2 spring loaded pins for locking up or down.

Not to one-up ya Cowboy but I was actually test driving at WOT mine when I did it, so I would say I was doing 42 at least !!

Thak you all for the advice, I'll check how many bolts I have on my wedge.

I also read my manual, and ity also states not to use it above 30 mph.

I guess it ansewrs my question. Great site! It's always better when you also get experience from fellow wakeboarders.
