little help on 3rd battery

Recommended Posts

looking into buying a 3rd battery for the boat, the big Kinetix cuz after research my batteries arent keeping up with my amps and sub is cutting out. if i connect the 3rd battery to the second(not the starting battery) is there anything special i should do. (not:i have a 3 cell onboard charger as i know alternator prolly wont cut it) thanks any tips appreciated. also, i was told i could prolly just get rid of my 2nd deep cycle and the kinetix would do the job but gonna try to use 3rd battery to offset my weighting issue in my boat.

Is your problem key off playing time, or while actually running the boat?

usually off, but sometimes running.considered capacitor but.....

Do not connect that kinetik to your other battery unless your other battery is an AGM battery. If it is an AGM you can just connect the two, but if you're having battery issues your other battery might be on it's way out. If it's going out you will only harm the kinetik by hooking them together.

I prob have the same setup as you do stock.. I took out the #2 cranking battery and replaced it with two kinetiks wired in parallel. I'll use an onboard charger to keep them topped off. Going out this weekend and going to test out the play time... I'll post how it works.

Hate to Hijack a thread, but I have three batteries, and 3 amps. Last time I was out, the amps acted like they were not getting enough power. I was thinking it was a bad ground somewhere, but after reading some of the comments, could the batteries be getting drained and the alt is not charging them back up?

After not using the radio for the rest of the day, I got back home and everything is working fine.

If you're batteries are more than 2 years old they are probably shot. The stock batteries that came in my boat didn't make it past the first season. If you don't have a charging routine when you get the boat home they are surely dead. With a medium to large stereo in your boat with a large battery bank you can't rely on the alternator to charge the batteries.

Yes those are lead acid batteries. You don't want to hook those together with a kinetik battery or any other AGM or GELL battery.

You also have to charge AGM and GELL batteries differnent than lead acid batteries.
