New Bunks on ShoreStation

Hello,

Just bought the whole deal. 95 response with dock and shore Station. The bunks on the Shore Station are in rough shape. The carpet has been worn down to the wood. I am planning on putting new bunks on the lift but have argued with friends on how to do it. My idea is to by untreated wood and cover with marine grade (trailer) carpet with stainless steel staples (with a staple gun). my friend insists on using pressure treated lumber and says any outdoor carpet will work and says I am wasting money by going with marine grade carpet and stainless steel staples. I think anything but marine carpet is going to scratch the Sh$T out of the gel cost in the long run.

Please advise...

I quit using carpet and changed over to hard plastic glide on from Cabela's. No marks on the boat and going on third year no wear at all.

Welcome MalibuCPA,

I would go with pressure treated wood over non-ptw, why would you not use ptw?

Hey Sixball, do you have a link to that product?

Thanks - Jim

Hey Malibucpa,

I just installed a shorestation lift and it came with aluminum bunks with some type of plastic on top. Man are they nice. I have 2 other lifts with where I use wood bunks and the aluminum are nicer and I will never have to work on them.

Same as above, they are perfect. I have an older cantilever HarborMaster lift that I put the same bunks on several years ago, the carpet is still like new, and they are not warped or anything. Definitely worth it.

If you're going with wood it should absolutely be pressure treated. Any carpet should do unless you are powering on and off! SS staples would be a nice touch.

I ordered through Cabelas Marine, Boat trailer.

I did need to buy two sets to cover the bunks as they are longer than a boat trailer.

I have the same thing awilco has. Here is the description from Shorestation.

POLY BUNK COMPLETE WITH BUNK SUPPORTS AND MTG BRKTS FOR MECHANICAL WINCH HOISTS MODELS V30108,40108,30120 AND 40120. WILL NOT ADAPT TO THE HYD HOIST.

They are really nice, but for the $350 it would cost to upgrade. the route you are going may be better.

I think this is what Sixball was talking about. This looks similar to what the Shoerstation Polybunk uses on top.

Here's the link on Cabela's.

Pretty sweet for a lift where you are floating the boat on - wish I had thought of that 2 years ago when I redid my bunks. As an aside, I don't think I would use those on a trailer (the way they are advertised). If you do any power loading, looks like a sure route to scratches in the hull.
