What part am I missing from the prop shaft outlet

Recommended Posts

Ok i purchased my 93 f3 euro skier last year and nothing appeared to be missing but when i looked under the boat i noticed that there appears to be a piece missing around the prop shaft outlet. I took a picture of the area, hopefully someone out there either has a similar boat or knows what part is missing and knows where I can locate it.

Unless those screw holes are empty, nothing.

If those are empty, look inside. The machine screws should be holding down the stuffing box on the inside. Otherwise it's normal.

Nothing missing. You will notice on the inside there is a big nut that contains a fiber seal captured between the nut and the coupling. When the boat is in the water there will be a slow and steady dripping of water through the seal, roughly 4-5 drops per 10 seconds. That is also normal and the rate is controlled by the tightness or fit of the nut. Make sure it does drip as that is what lubricates the shaft to seal interface, too tight will cause the shaft to heat up excessively. There is quite a bit of information around on that very subject.

Some meathead used screws that were too long to mount the shaft log.

It's hard to get good help these days. Crazy.gif

EDIT: Did you let Jack work on your boat?

NorCaliButt is a good resource here--he's had a screw loose for YEARS! Tease.gif

Thanks for the quick responses. I didn't appear to be something to be concerned about because i had taken the boat to Havasu twice last year and didn't appear to have issues with the drive shaft. I will check the drip rate though when I get it back in the water in a few weeks.
