battery switch

Recommended Posts

My old battery switch (2 batteries) had 4 positions

1. 0 (all off)

2. 1 (battery 1)

3. 1+2 (battery 1 and 2)

4. 2 (battery 2)

Anything is fairly clear.

On my new BU the battery switch (2 batteries) is having 3 positions

1. 0 (all off)

2. 1 (battery 1)

3. all (battery 1 and 2)

Can anyone explain the function and sence of the new switch

(can't use battery 2 only ???)

Thanks a lot

Sounds like the BlueSea units that are used with an Automatic Combining Relay. I've never seen a perko set up like that. Do you have a relay hooked up in the system? It's set up like that so you have a reserve battery as backup. Switching to the reserve battery only isn't an option on purpose.

lucky your boat can stock with acr

I bet its under the switch

keep it in 1 the acr will charge both batteries

combined only if 1 battery is dead

I have the opposite question, my boat came with the

Switch (2 batteries) had 4 positions

1. 0 (all off)

2. 1 (battery 1)

3. 1+2 (battery 1 and 2)

4. 2 (battery 2)

My question:

1. If I leave switch on 1 (battery 1) will this charge battery 1 and 2 or only 1 (battery 1) /

or the reverse If I leave switch on 2 (battery 2) will this charge battery 2 and 1 or only 2 (battery 2)

or

2. Do I need to run say 1 (battery 1) one day to charge 1 (battery 1) /

and then run say 2 (battery 2) another day to charge 2 (battery 2)

first off to you have an acr or isolator?

if you do put the switch in the 1 position it will charge both batteries

if not just a switch which I had before i installed the acr the following happens

in position 1 charges battery 1 only

in position 2 charges battery 2 only

and in 1/2 combines both batteries

I would get an acr or isolator worry free operation no switching but if not run the boat on 1 on 2 when sitting and if you are boarding or traveling switch to 1/2 to charge both

My problem was that the amps where hook directly to battery 1 not controlled by the switch

when I sat I switch it to battery 2 not knowing that the amps where drawing off battery 1

basically draining both batteries

fixed now 1 start battery three for stereo with acr charges all batteries no more switching

The boat is brand new 09 VTX, is there a ways to determine if it has an acr or isolator by looking at it?

send me a pic of the battery compartment and switch

I know on 08 the acr if equipped was mounted under the switch

If you want the acr let me know have a source that is real cheap with fast shipping

you can also follow the wires from the switch the acr or isolator will be mounted close by

I can't upload the picture of the battery compartment and switch, but from what I can see 3 wires go to and from the 2 batteries and 1 wire goes to a small box (arc ?) and 1 wire out of the box (arc ?)

That sounds like a relay to me.

Thanks for everyones input, so it would seem to me that if I want to charge both batteries at the same time I would set the switch to 1+2.

Then normal use, some days run it on battery 1 and other days run it on battery 2 to maintain a charge.

you got it easy set it on 1 only

the acr will charge both batteries then seperate them when the engine is off

only use 1+ 2 if one battery is dead ( starting )

just remember to check where the factory wired in the amp power

at the switch , battery1 ,or battery 2

if it is at a battery (likely) running the stereo with the engine off will drain that battery regardless of the switch position

I would move the amp power to battery 2 if not already then if it drains the acr will seperate the batteries only draining battery 2

leave one for starting

hope this helps
