Cooler Mod/Add for 09 Vride?

-BS-

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I just took possession of my new 09 Vride. I'm sure all of you know, but it's basically the 08 VLX.....

I am soooooo stoked! It's like someone took my old boat and upgraded everything I wanted upgraded. The only thing that I wasn't thrilled about is the cooler size (it's half the size of my old one). Is this the way it was on the 08 VLX's? Is there some sort of cooler kit that I can add or can I replace it with a larger one?

Thanks for the help!

The cooler size looks to be the same as the '08, the seat flips up on the '08 as opposed to removable.

heres a tip for you fill the cooler portion with ice and beverages and use the bag under the corner seat as a second chest. basicly dubling the space.. i bet if you talked to your dealer real nice they would give you the second bag..

Strange. The older Vride has both those compartments connected as one giant cooler. I have the same bag I use for drinks & ice, then use the back section as overflow, garbage, etc.

Also, sort of related..... One thing we started doing was buying bottled water & freezing almost all of it. Then I just throw the frozen water bottles in the cooler, along with other drinks.... and no ice. Works great. No need for ice & no melting ice mess to clean up.

I was not happy when I saw the cooler in my 2008 23 LSV. It is half the size of the one in my 2004. That prompted me to buy a carry on cooler for the boat in case I needed some extra space. Turns out, I have not used the built in cooler once.

The portable cooler has a velcro lid. You just rip it open for a quick grab........ no zipper...............and way easier than asking someone to slide over so you can get to the built in cooler. Also, the portable cooler keeps things cold all day with very little ice. I used to use 2 large bags of ice per day with the 2004 mega cooler.

Now I have the velcro lid cooler in two sizes. I use whatever size is needed for the size of the crew on any given day. I keep it in the bow walkway where it is very easy to step over.

Added bonus..........no built in cooler to clean. ( I keep ropes and handles in there) The Malibu bag cooler that came with the boat is in the shed, wrapped in plastic for the next owner to enjoy.

I will second that notion and add that for extended week ends you can freeze the barley flavored water as well Thumbup.gif A lot of people think they explode but we only loose one once in a great while.

BS001- I have one of those soft coolers available at Joes and I was suprised that it kept ice as long as it did.....it is a columbia brand.

Thanks for all the comments! Lots of good ideas :)

I was trying to avoid bringing a separate (loose) cooler. I just remember bringing one on the old Reinell, and it was either leave it in the center area (where it tends to slide around and takes up space) or put it in one of the storage areas (where you have to open 2 lids to get to it)

I just got to thinking....is it possible that I missed an additional small cooler in the bow of my 09? (I put it in storage after picking it up) Didn't some of the VLX's have that? Dontknow.gif
