Gelcoat cracks in 2003 23 LSV

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a used 2003 LSV 23 Wakesetter. Absolutely love the boat. However, this weekend we had to cross some fairly rough water to get to our family ski area. We skiied all day. While we were sitting in the water, I floated around the boat admiring it. I noticed some gelcoat cracks on the starboard side, at the bottom of the hull that run about 2/3 the length of the boat. It is in that single flat area just between bottom of the hull and the first step up where the color changes (I hope that makes sense) I cannot see any other areas that are effected. I was hoping to find an impact point when I pulled the boat out of the water, but there is none. I am familiar with gelcoat and know it can be repaired fairly easily, but my concern is that the rough water may have caused enough flex to cause this and that this may show up every time I get into rough water. This water by the way was not excessive at all. I could have run through it at full speed without any danger, but I was running about 15 MPH to keep the ride as soft as possible.

The good news is that I purchased it from Waterski Dallas. These guys have been awesome and I would expect them to help me in every way they can.

Anyone have any input or experience with this?

Can you share some pics? I have some cracks too - also unsure of their origion. If it is somewhat common in the hull, might just be one of those things, vs any sort of damage.

After further inspection, we have determined we must have struck something in the water. I just had my insurance agency (Progressive) give me an estimate. It came in at $1800. Glad I hit something!

BTW - Progressive has been great to deal with....thus far. :)
