2003 Monsoon miss firing too

Recommended Posts

I forgot to mention in my previous post about the motor stalling that it did miss fire before the bad gas ever entered the tank. Maybe the earlier miss fires are the problem and the gas is fine. Any suggestions.

I just had a "missing/hesitation" problem fixed on my 2003 Monsoon. They changed the fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor. I originally assumed a fuel problem, since it only evidenced itself during full acceleration, thus the suspect fuel filter. However, I was shocked at the terribly corroded terminals inside the cap. At this point, I can't be sure what was causing the missing, but the engine runs "good as new".

if you have never changed your cap and rotor, plugs...DO THAT FIRST...

mine ran terrrible.....trouble shot everything but that....

Thanks for both of your responses. I did do a tune on the weekend (cap, rotor, and plugs) and everything seemed to work fine. The cap was very corroded inside. I am going to take it to the dealer just to hook up the motor to a computer and see the fault codes and get them to check fuel pressure and anything else they have come across to cause these problems. Most of our skiing is done in a river and being dead in the water is not good when we are in less than 10 feet of water and there are dead heads etc.

  • 2 weeks later...

Coming from a '90 PCM 351 motor to the '04 Indmar 350, I've been very surprised the last 2 times I changed the cap & rotor, as to just how corroded that thing gets. I remember changing the cap / rotor religiously on the PCM and each one I pulled looked as if it were brand new. Now after 1 year the cap looks trashed inside on the contacts. Don't get me wrong, this is not a bash on indmar / malibu AT ALL, just curious if there is some change in circumstances / materials used that might cause this?

At any rate, changing it always seems to smooth out the idle and performance just a bit.

What did the dealer resolve the problem? If so what was the issue?

The dealer checked the fuel pressure, timing and for any engine codes and everything checked out OK. I did get them to fix a tower bolt that was stripped with a heli-coil so it was not a total waste of time. The distributor cap, rotor and plugs will turn into a 100 hour service or every two years from now on. Thanks for all your responses.
