Bolts holding shaft to transmission---4 or 2 bolts?

Recommended Posts

I've found some great information on this site......keep it up. I'm realigning the engine (wow was it off bad), replacing the packing, and trying to make the steering smoother.

On the flanges connecting the shaft to the tranny, there are 4 bolt holes, but mine only has two bolts (opposite sides of shaft of course). Should it have 4 bolts???

Thanks

4 bolts on all the newer boats. If you have 4 holes use 4 bolts.

Spec is .003" but I've seen them much worse than that with no vibration. Pretty easy to get that spec with a DD though, it is the V-drives that can be a royal pain.
