MOVING TO CLEVELAND

Recommended Posts

Love2Board

I'm retiring from the Coast Guard next summer after what will be 26 years and 4 days of service. My wife and I are having a home built in the suburbs of our beloved Cleveland, Ohio, and I'm concerned that I won't be able to use the 'bu enough to justify having it anymore.

Are there any Cleveland-area 'bu owners on this board that can convince me that I'll be able to use her on Lake Erie?

We won't be far from the lake, but it doesn't normally seem calm enough to wakeboard on.

Any advice out there for me?

I lived there from 89-94, but didn't own a boat; couldn't afford one at that point!

Lots of Ohioans on here. Keep the 'Bu dude. You're always welcome with us at Lake Norris down in Tennessee. It's a little bit of a hike, but lots of people at Norris make the drive.

And thank you for your service.

Well I just found a home we can have built with a 26-foot deep, 3-car garage. Keeping the 'bu may be a viable option now.

My vote it to keep it.

Not sure about Lake Erie, but there are other lakes around. Lots of people from Ohio & Chicago here. Prime season is late May through early Sept. Die-hards can typically ski from mid April to early November. The crazy ones from early March to mid December.

Also depends on what you mean by enough use to justify.. There are many in this area who manage 120 - 150 hours a year or so.

Enjoy your retirement & thank you.

There are lakes in the Columbus area that you could try. If you want to make a longer trip, Lake Norris (mentioned above) in TN and Lake Cumberland/Dale Hollow in KY are very popular.

Welcome back to Ohio and congrats on your retirement.
