Rudder Issues 92 euro f3

Recommended Posts

I have a 92 Euro F3 with some excess play in the rudder. I pulled it out and there was a red nylon bushing inside with no other packing except for two o-rings. When I inspected the rudder shaft which is bronze it has some slight groving into the shaft material where it fit into the bushing. Does anyone know if there should be any other packing in there? can it be shimmed or repaired or should I just buy a new rudder? Thanks, Pat

I called SKIDIM today and Vince said that if the shaft is not bent than I should replace the rubber O-rings on the red nylon bushing that fits around the rudder shaft. I called malibu and they will sell a stuffing box retro kit that is only 20 bucks less than an entire replacement rudder. Does anyone know where to get the o-rings Thanks, Pat

Try Marine Hardware. That's where I bought my replacement rudder housing. I think the new housing came with o-rings. They are the original manufacturers of my 1990 housing.
