Posting Pics

All of the pics on my Mac are way to big to post without saving them to a separate file and compressing them, which, if you are a computer idiot like me, is a PITA. Is there a setting for attaching posts that auto-compresses the pic on this end to an acceptable size without having to screw around with the pic before uploading it?

Never heard of one on this forum or any other.

You could try posting your pics to a site like Photobucket.com & using the built in compression feature in there. You still have to set the size of each picture. And then you post the pics using the "Insert Image" button on the toolbar on top of this forum's post window.

First:

Download the Windows XP image resizer power toy from Microsoft:

ImageResizerPowertoySetup

or a .zip file from here:

ImageResizerPowertoySetup.zip

Choose Run to install the program and agree to whatever Bill G. wants you to agree to...

Once the Image Resizer Power Toy is installed you can simply RIGHT click an image file with the mouse and a menu will appear with the Image Resizer option. like this:

The following window will open.

Once you click OK the image will be saved in the same location as the original image with a name appended with the size you chose in parenthesis.

The following screen snapshot shows how to select your folder view. I like to chose the "details" view to check the size of my file as well as modified dates and file types. But also like to flip back to "thumbnails" view to get a small preview of the pictures.

Here we see that I actually resized this picture twice. Once using the medium selection, and the other using the large. Notice the difference in the size of the files.

That's a good idea, unless you have a Mac like the OP.

jjackkrash, take a look at ImageWell, it's a real simple OS X app that allows for basic image manipulation. I've always wondered why Invision, VBulletin, etc. don't add that feature to their software. GD is configured by default on almost every PHP installation now-a-days, so it would be cake to do.

I even wrote some custom code for MBO to resize uploaded images on the fly, but I'm sure the core of IPB has changed a lot since then, so my code won't work anymore.
