Mod for ballast switches

I've got my pumps, switches, and oter stuff and now just waiting for some warmer weather to put in auto ballast system. One thing I have been tossing and turning over. I picked up some really good looking contura switches off ebay and I am not sure where the best spot would be ......any ideas? I was thinking of taking off this panel and mounting them in there.

where have you put your switches for the ballast bags?

The 2 switches on left are for a light bar and 3 on right are for 3 bags

Your opinion would be appreciated, good spot or not??

Mine are all integrated into the dash, but I have seen others on here make a small metal (aluminum) panel to the right of the steering wheel and install the switches there. Look through the picture galleries and I'm sure you'll find some pics of others.

This picture shows where my stereo mounting plate was when I first got the boat.

This one is the replacement plate I made for it and the switches. It is installed in the same place. Sorry I keep meaning to take pictures with it mounted in place, but never get around to it.

Thanks for the info. Nice tutor on making your switch plate. I was kind of thinking in the same area, but on my boat I have to be careful on knee space (6'3" 285). Looking at your pic actually just gave me a new idea of maybe having the switch lined up vertical rather than side by side.

Thanks for the ideas

I'd advise against mounting them into that upholstered panel below the throttle. Reason is, you'll have to compress the foam that's in there to make the switches sit tight and the vinyl is just gonna want to come loose from under the switches. Plus, trying to look at the switches to see what's doing what will be difficult, think about how uncomfortable it is when you actually have to try to look at and adjust something on your radio face.

I agree with Pete, that would be REALLY hard to get a clean install without a face plate setup. I have 4 ballast switches on mine, 1 on the dash and 3 underneath the right side with a small guard so you dont accidentally kick them on when you slide into the seat.
