06 v-ride

I bought a 06 v-ride with the 320hp engine this year. It had 30 hours on it and ever since I got it there has been a whine from the v-drive. It is noticable at idle in gear and much louder in reverse. Is this normal, I have spoke to the dealer and they said yes. Others say no.. The dealer is 4 hours away and have not been able to make it there for warr work. thanks...Scott

Normal...but I would double check the ATF and Vdrive fluids to make sure they are on par...just to be sure.

I have the same boat/engine and I do not hear anything in forward, at least not above the standard engine noise, etc. I do hear the typical whine in reverse. Check the fluids for sure.

The newer v-drives have a noticlable whine in forward, compared with the older ones.

I think the best question is what Bill said, how many inboard boats have you ever run?

First inboard, v-drive. Will have dealer ck it out in the spring. Thanks!!

The whine is normal. The boat should sound something like riding on a commercial passenger jet. In forward it sounds a bit like the plane taking off. In reverse it sounds like that whirring that the plane makes when adjusting the flaps on landing. Most people who ride in my boat for the first time think it sounds badass compared to the metal grinding noise that older v-drives make when put into gear.

When Malibu switched to the new V-Drive (About the size of a 3 liter bottle) It picked up a little whine in forward.

I personally think it sounds a bit like a supercharger on a car at idle.

at any rate, quite normal

Test drove a 07 Calabria and 08 Moomba and they both whined noticeably. Calabria is Merc powered and Moomba by Indmar. Friends Mastercraft Maristar is relatively quiet. The Bu's seemed relatively quiet. Definitely would be checking fluid levels as suggested.
