When I replaced the front axle on my 2010 BoatMate I cleaned it, and rattle canned the primer and used some Mercruiser black lower unit paint I had from years earlier. Still looked brand new when I sold it 4 years later. It was stored indoors so I am sure that helped.

Ok. Moving the process along. Seems consensus on Torsion axle issue for this thread and talking to local trailer experts. Talked to Extreme and have replacement axle on the way. It is unfinished. Any suggestions on painting?

Ok I am NOT just living with the grinding. I have taken the unit apart and found the culprit. The output shaft main bearing and race have been grinding each other to a fine metal. After pressing off the bearing and the race I have tracked new ones down and have reinstalled. I am now wondering what the torque is for bolting this vdrive back together. I am just going to use standard torques for a 3/8 bolt and some blue lock tight and call it good. The gears still looked great. I had to get new seals for the input and output shafts, the last one coming today. Any one know what the torque is for bolting this back together is? I have pictures of all this but can’t figure out how to attach or add to this post?

Don't mind me adding, that when you do first start the engine that it always stay's out of gear. Immediately look for oil pressure on the gauge and water exiting both exhaust ports within seconds. Look for leaks. Hopefully no alarms, and you can slowly let it warm up near idle, with the transmission lock-out engaged so it cannot go into gear and spin the prop shaft while warming up. Watch the temp gauge also and exhausts again and make sure the temp will not shoot up and overheat for whatever reason. Keep a fire extinguisher around, and hopefully someone to give a 2nd hand and eyes.

46 minutes ago, Steve B. said:Definitely call them and ask if you aren't familiar. As said above, make sure that impeller is in, block drain plugs, knock sensor, hoses, etc. Including battery hook up. Dealers leave them in different states of ready, a quick call won't hurt.
Appreciated !
