A worn or faulty impeller is the most common cause of exhaust overheat codes. Worn sensor connection plug sockets can cause faults. On the PCM Challenger 409 Monsoon, I have seen excessive buildup of corrosion or sediment clogging up the manifold cooling passages cause them to overheat..

The service guy probably forgot to connect the water intake and since Malibu still doesn’t include a $20 , 200 degree engine block sensor he likely overheated without ever knowing until too late! Haha

If you care at all about resale I’d find a way to get the M6. The M5 in an LSV eliminates a TON of potential buyers (and is probably why you found a “good deal” to begin with). Maybe youre ok with that (but there’s a reason you’re trying to upgrade right now).

M5 will be plenty at sea level. if your 2018 Axis stereo was impressive, I can only assume a 2024 Malibu one will be as good or better.
PW3 will be a big improvement, and so will the 17" prop for getting you up and going.
