  1. Hey guys, so I’ve got what I understand to be 4 wetsounds pro 80’s on my 05 VLX. It’s on an illusion tower so the mounting seems to be directly bolted into the side of the tower which seems to save a ton of space. The speaks are completely blown out and actually still sound oddly good…. The cone is deteriorated on all of them so at times they can sound bad. Anyways I’m trying to keep the pods possibly and just buy replacement speakers but from my understanding you can’t just slap any old speaker in there. Anybody have a similar situation or could point me in the right direction?

    Add Subwoofer 2019 22 LSV

Hello Malibu Crew! I’m looking for help here, I have a 2019 Malibu 22 LSV with no subwoofer option. I have looked around under the console and can see pos/neg wires where the sub would be if I installed one. I have seen the other forms and I think to myself that there must be an easier way. Would anyone advise against getting an integrated subwoofer made for cars and stick it in the same spot that the subwoofer should be. I’m not entirely sure if it gets wet down there, But I feel like could be worth a shot. I know with the integrated subwoofers that it won’t be as powerful as having a custom box. With that being said, I think any low frequency would make a massive difference within this boat. Last question, would it be absolutely necessary to cut a hole in the fiberglass where your feet go in the main fuselage of the boat. In sedans for example, subwoofers are stuck in the truck and completely sealed. Wondering if it would detract that much from the sound. If anyone has installed an active automotive subwoofer in their boat, and didn’t have the subwoofer console open to begin with, please let me know. And that goes for all years as well.
  3. Hey Folks, I have 2018 23 LSV with stock stereo. After some time on the water the interior speakers start buzzing, regardless if audio is playing or not. Tower speakers are fine. I have only noticed it happening now that it is getting hotter in Phoenix, so I've checked out the amp temperature and it's hot but not on fire and I don't have any towels resting on it. The ground wire is securely attached as well. Buzzing video below: https://imgur.com/09x8qkg Any suggestions I can try to fix? or need new amp?
  4. Looking to add a second set of speakers to my Malibu 21 VLX. Who has done this and has recommendations? Should I add the same wet sound speakers or upgrade the whole system. Don’t love the quality of sound. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.
  5. New to Malibu Crew and just picked up a 2015 Axis T23 after about 4 years of researching. This site has been an invaluable tool in helping me to make informed decisions and be a educated buyer, so thank you to all who post on this site. So I have spent the last few weeks going through every single system and familiarizing myself with every piece of the boat and troubleshooting/replacing a few items that needed. As soon as we took the boat out we noticed the 4 tower speakers were going into protection mode and cutting out when we turned the volume up about 25%. Our head unit is a Sony CDX-H910UI with a volume control of 0-50... we were around level 20. After doing extensive research here and elsewhere it seemed that the gain control was the issue. Last night I got things adjusted to where everything seems to be in order. My question to this forum is whether or not this is the correct remedy. I have drawn a diagram of how I believe my system is wired that can be found here. Full disclosure, i'm an architect, not an electrical engineer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Punch line of the story is that my 4 tower speakers (Icon 8's @150RMS @ 4ohms) are running off of one amp (either a wetsounds HT1 or HT2, admittedly I didn't check). I set all the EQ's to flat and turned the volume up to 75% (number 38 on head unit) and played a 1khz test tone at 0db gain to take my voltage readings coming out of the amp. The initial reading came in at 30.52V out of the amplifier which using the formula SQRT(150 watts * 4ohms) = approx 24.49V seemed to be a little over powered. However as best I can tell the speakers are wired in parallel off of a single channel which would reduce impedance to 2ohms (2-4ohm speakers) which would mean a max voltage of SQRT(150 watts * 2ohms) = 17.32V... which is far lower than what it was set at, and is almost at minimum gain. Initally I set the gain to 17.32V and was still experiencing the same problem, and after completing the definition of insanity 6 more times, it worked fine, however the last time I believe that I inadvertently switched the left and right of the single channel (still connected + to + and - to -)... which could have affected all the wiring down the line (maybe they aren't in parallel). Bottom line, I am unsure of whether the voltage that I have set the tower speakers at is too low (which is better than too high). I have not found a definitive answer on whether you combine the wattages of speakers connected in parallel or just use the rated RMS wattage of a single speaker and the measured impedance to set your base tuning. My impedance measurements of the speakers are a nominal of 2 ohms and an actual reading of 2.9ohms (both left and right pair). Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I may just have it checked out to be on the safe side. Side note: Does anyone else have a boat where the radio memory (yellow) wire is not wired directly to the battery? When i cut my battery switch off it kills memory power to the head unit which is completely pointless... I ended up running a new 3A fused wire to the radio last night (probably need to change to a 1A but 3A was all I had on hand).
  6. Hey guys, been on the fourm for a minute and haven't posted anything because I haven't needed to have anything cleared up. We ordered a 2018 22mxz last year and have loved it. Before we took hold of it we had the dealer install 2 pairs of Rev 10's which are just insane. Also, we have the standard interior wet sounds configuration with the 6 mid-range drivers as well as the 12-inch sub. In September the dealership called us and explained that we had a third amplifier sitting and ready to be installed for the sub. (I believe it was a 500 watt amp just for the sub). This made sense to us because the tower was easily twice as loud as the interior. We figured that the amp that was powering the sub as well as all the interior speakers was going to just power the interior ones and we would have one just for the sub. This would hopefully make the interior, hopefully, just as loud as the tower. Having many people around us who own new Malibu's (2017's and up with the new wet sounds stereo) and being able to crawl around in them I also noticed that they all have three amps to power the entire boat. Also, during the 2019 boat we checked out a 2019 22mxz and it also had three amps and the sales rep explained that one was for the tower, one was for the interior mid range drivers, and that one was for the sub. We asked him if we could do the same and he said yes that's what they recommend if you want the best. We contacted our local dealer after the boat show and asked if they could install it because we wanted to have all three, however, the response was a lot different from what we expected. All of a sudden they did a 180 and said that our boat could not have a third amp and that it cannot be done. Even though they were willing to and should have done it during the winter. I am now wondering if I can just grab the amp from the dealership and wire it up myself since its just a factory amp and it should be easy to do with the new wet sounds wiring harness. Anything helps thanks guys!
