  1. My 2014 VLX has a progressing delamination of the touchscreen (lower right on helm) that controls start/stop, bluetooth, surfgate, wedge up/down, ballast fill/drain. The virtual "buttons" are getting more and more unreliable. This screen was used from 2011 to early 2016 in all wakesetters. SKU number 3962052 model 6913-00503-01 This issue has been discussed in prior forums. The local dealer will sell one for $2400 with only a 30 day limited warranty. Bakes is about $2200, and the warranty is at "the discretion of Malibu on a case by case basis" up to 30 days from date of sale-- so the shipping time is using up warranty. This is a pretty sorry warranty for a very expensive screen, and one that is known to have a short life (a few years) in the OE installation. I have attempted to call Medallion (the manufacturer) tech support multiple times. It goes to voicemail and I leave messages, and never get a call back. Do any fellow members have any suggestions? Does anyone have an aftermarket rebuild program for these? If not, are there any Malibu dealers you know selling at a lower price that will ship?
  2. 2006 vlx having issues with the tower lights and speakers. When I turn the tower led lights on at night the stereo makes an awful noise almost like the lights are pulling power off of it. I can also see the tower light switch on the dash kind of flicker when cruising at night while bouncing around. So I think the lights or the speakers have rubbed through the wire casing and are rubbing together. I’m just wondering where anyone else would even start looking to see what the issue is.
  3. I figured I'd get some other opinions seeing as I've been getting my butt kicked by this thing for over a year now. 2007 21 VLX with a monsoon 340 with 615 hours on it. Boat spits the service required message and shortly after that the engine fault, cylinder 8 misfire- mechanical system not responding properly code rolls in and puts the boat into limp mode. Only happens when its working hard under load (ballasts full, surfing with at least 5-6 people on board). The kicker is sometimes it will run perfect for a whole day and then the next day no dice. I have noticed when its about to act up the RPMs starts slowly dropping off not allowing the boat to keep up with whatever speed the cruise control is at before it drops right down into limp mode. The person who owned the boat before me took it to the local Malibu dealer twice for the problem and they couldn't solve it however it was winter so they couldn't lake test it. The plugs, wires, cap, rotor and fuel filter(x2) have been replaced. I put a new injector in it and it ran great for a day and half after which hasn't happened since. I've read that a bent shaft or damaged prop could throw off the knock sensors enough to throw the code but those have since been replaced. Compression in all the cylinders are good and close. I've heard the gen 2 in tank fuel pumps are only rated for 500 hours so upgrading to a gen 3 fuel pump may be next on my list although i'm hesitant because the current fuel pump still pushes 45psi at the fuel rail and it wouldn't make sense as to why it runs good sometimes. Not to mention they aint cheap. I currently have the boat in a million pieces seeing as its not surfing season in Canada for another couple months. I have the current fuel pump sitting on the bench, the screens on the bottom look clean and the inside of the tank also isnt bad. A couple specs here and there but clean for the most part. I am planning on giving it a proper clean out when i get home from work in a week. Another thing i've heard about is the lower intake gaskets on the 5.7 vortecs failing and oil making its way into the intake. There was a small oil puddle on the intake plenum when i pulled it off but i've been told to expect that with these motors? I will prob end up doing these gaskets unless I'm missing something obvious. I know it could be a timing issue i just dont have a diacom to check cam angle and i thought that would have been something the dealer looked at the second time around at least. I'm also not closing the door to it being an electrical/voltage issue . The thing came fitted with 3 batteries, a pile of speakers and a sub. I cant remember what the battery terminals looked like last year but when i cleaned them up a couple weeks ago there was a fair amount of corrosion. Sorry for the long write up! Any input would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Hi Everyone! Just bought my first boat. 2001 Wakesetter VLX with about 320 hours. In great shape and runs strong, but I need a couple things and was hoping you could help. 1. Previous owner took the wedge off and lost it. Any tips on buying a wedge? Can't seem to find them online. 2. Does not have a cover. Best cover? Not sure where to start.
  5. Will the mission delta 2.0 fit the hull of my 2003 Malibu Wakesetter VLX?
  6. What brand, type, size, etc…. Wake shaper will fit in a 2003 Wakesetter VLX??? Greg
  7. Looking for guidance on root cause for repeated failure of Indmar Monsoon 350 transmission mount bushings (Mainly on the port side). I have a 2009 Wakesetter VLX Around 30th November 2020 (380hrs) I noticed some fragments of torn soft rubber in the bilge and quickly traced it to mangled lower transmission mount bushings on both sides. The upper bushings were fine. This is what the remains of the trashed bushings looked like in situ: Port: https://photos.app.goo.gl/E6WBZjUVtdkpmrp57 Stbd: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6b2Dg4JhBdsjyeM56 I replaced both bushings with Indmar OEM items on 10th December 2020. I reinspected the bushings on the 4th Jan 21 at 395 hours and I was surprised to see signs of tearing on the upper part of the port side bushing already (you can still see traces of the green dish-soap used to help press the bushing in) https://photos.app.goo.gl/fxLhR7XMEzbmaBNq5 The Stbd bushing appears to be mostly ok with some minor signs of damage on the upper section This weekend past (6-7 March 2021) I noticed that the top section of bushing on the port side has separated completely and when I felt around the bottom edge of the bushing against brass nut and steel washer mate , I can feel tearing there too. I have tightened the lower nut and washer but I don't have the specific torque settings to confirm so, I have just tightened it until the busing material mushrooms past the washer by approx 1/4" We surf regularly. I have an Acme 1235 prop, full factory MLS ballast, plus 2 x 550lb rear and 1 x 600lb front, suction-cup surf-gate and a modified hi-lift (downforce) wedge (extra ~300lbs) as per this thread : I have watched the bushings when under surf towing power and it seems the port bushing is significantly compressed/deformed (which makes sense due to the loading and torque response corresponding to the direction of prop rotation). I had a mechanic check the prop shaft and coupling and he was happy that the prop shaft is straight and the coupling aligned without doing a full realignment exercise. We arrived at one view being, that the additional load was a likely cause of the excessive movement in the mount. We also discussed potentially changing to a firmer bushing material (e.g. polyurethane) in that specific application (lower port side) Various other conversations with dealers and distributors have not revealed any new information other than one opinion that even with the additional loads this should not be happening and suggested that something else is wrong or perhaps lower nut/washer may be too loose. (I don't have accurate torque specs for those yet but I tightened them until they mushroomed past the washer by about 1/4") Main mounts look fine but it it is difficult to see their condition inside. Has anyone else had similar experience and found a solution or else, have sensible suggestions as to how I may approach this? Thanks in advance
  8. I’m looking at some different ballast bags for the center locker on my 1999 Sunsetter VLX ... anyone know the dimensions? will a Straight Line Big Bag 375 Ballast Bag (375 lbs) - 65" x 14" x 14" thanks!!!
  9. We are looking for feedback information on the best after market prop for surfing with our Malibu. We had a 13.5 x 14 and need to replace. Recommendations and places to purchase? We are in Canada. Thanks
  10. I have a 2001 VLX, and the heater core (inside the drivers helm) is junk & leaking. the easy part was disconnected the heater core (at the motor) and installed a short cut-over hose to finish off the N.E. boating season. In order to access and replace the heater core, I need to remove the drivers footrest under the helm. Its not obvious how this comes out. I've found a few lower screws, but it also appears to be attached at both the sides (from behind). If anyone has the key to unlock this secret, I would appreciate any/all input...
  11. So I need to pull the engine and replace a rusty sump ..I’m a mechanic by trade so fairly handy with spanners , I’ve but never pulled an engine from a v drive , just my old direct drive 350 ski boat but I got a few questions 1 can the engine come out without pulling the transmission and v drive ? 2 what 350 chev sump fits the indmar 320 lcr engine ? As I’ll have to source an automotive one ..is it the vortec 4 bolt sump ? 3 is the sump gasket a one piece and does the lcr engine need the rear main doing or can it be reused ? It’s not leaking that I can see , just a rusty thread and pan in the bottom cheers Luke
  12. From the 2013 Wakesetter VLX to the 2014 Wakesetter VLX what changes were made? I want surfgate but in 2015 the draft was changed to 27” and I don’t have clearance for that. Looking for any changes between the 2013 and 2014 model years. Thanks!!!
  13. What are differences in the hull and resulting differences in surf wake and wakeboard wake of a fully weighted wakesetter VLX 21 hull for the 2013 - 2014 model year versus the 2004 Wakesetter VLX 21. Specifically the 2013 and 2014 wakesetter VLX hull with Surfgate. I have a 2005 Malibu VRide - 2004 Wakesetter hull - which I run fully weighted - two rear 750 + stock belly + Under bow Nose V Sack + 450 Fat Sack on top of cushion in the bow + 500 Lead wake in the walkway. I use a Ronix Wakeshaper and manual wedge down to surf. I run the Acme 2079 Prop to Push it. The wakesurf wave is phenomenal with a 3 Person crew. I wakesurf and wake foil every session. I love the wakeboard wake but hardly wakeboard anymore. I have to take the boat through a bridge and when lake levels are low I fill the bow sacks completely and barely get through. In 2015 the VLX hull jumps to 27” draft which I believe would be a problem. Not sure what year they started the diamond hull but I assume I don’t want one. I have a dedicated slalom boat.
  14. I have a 2001 wakesetter vlx that runs very poorly, uses excessive gas, smells of gas fumes. It has the indmar gm 5.7 engine. I have found that the engine is misfiring on multiple cylinders. I have changed wire set, plugs, cap, rotor. Replaced the knock sensor. Checked fuel pressure is 45 on the rail. I put a timing light on plug #1 to check the timing, and the light barely blinks. So I changed to the different plug wires just to see what the light will do. It is very erratic on any wire. There is no consistency to the firing. I don't know what to do next. I have read about crank position sensors, cam sensors but I don't know if my boat engine has these. I am unable to locate a crank sensor. It has clean fuel, new fuel filter. What should I do next? I need some help. Am I missing something obvious.
  15. Hi crew, im about to embark on a damper plate replacement on 2002 vlx wakesetter Vdrive with a monsoon 335. If anyone has any detailed guides with photos specific to a vdrive it would be much appreciated.
  16. Looking to add a second set of speakers to my Malibu 21 VLX. Who has done this and has recommendations? Should I add the same wet sound speakers or upgrade the whole system. Don’t love the quality of sound. Any thoughts or suggestions welcome.
  17. Better to position the Delta closest to the back, deeper or barely under surface- suggestions?
  18. Looking to replace flooring on my 2005 vlx. Would appreciate any and all ideas or suggestions or pictures of what you guys have done. Thanks
