Mirror Placement on Non-Tower boats

  1. 1. Mirror Placement on windshield, on door or in front of driver?

    • I prefer the Mirror in the middle, mounted to the walk-through door - Great visibility of the skier(s)

    • I prefer the Mirror on the driver's windshield, so I simply look up into the mirror. It still has plenty of view range for me.

    • I prefer the Mirror on the driver's windshield BUT right next to the walk-through door. It may stick into the walk-way a touch but it's better than on the walk-through door.

    • I don't have a tower, but I don't want it on the windsheild either.

  2. 2. Brackets - mounting style preference?

    • Old style - U shape bracket with 2 mounts on windshield frame - thumb screws underneath & bolt to adjust tension
      72
    • New style - Single bracket mount with ball & socket design - hand knob behind mirror
      68
  3. 3. Walk-through Door

    • I always shut the door underway.
      82
    • I often leave the door open.

    • I always shut the door, but still prefer the mirror in front of the driver.

I'm looking at recreating what I had on my Prostar a couple years ago. I loved it, rock solid, full visibility of the entire wake when the walk thru window was open or closed, and they both fold down under the cover.

Their stock Calabria brackets. I have one right now but it's not quite thick enough to fit over the windshield. If I can figure out how to modify it to fit, then I'll get another one for the other side.

I've debated about moving the factory bracket on the walk thru to one side & then installing the same Malibu bracket on the other side. Having it on the walk thru is worthless if you ever drive with the window open.

When you guys mount it on the walk thru....does it not hit the observers side of the windshield when you have the walk thru open? I would prefer it on the walk thru but mine hits the other side of the windshield when open.

I like the OEM set up on the walkway window, I have enough stuff hanging from the tower :) If they did make a bracket for the lower part for the tower (maybe off the holes available that you use for the board racks) that followed the contour of the windshield I may be interested, just my $.02. Nothing I would invest a lot of time into unless I was really bored :)

My feelings are more about what i don't like.

I don't like it right in front of me, then i have to look over, under or around it.

I don't like it sticking into the walkway (it always gets bumped and is in the way).

I can't mount it to the walkthru window, because we often have it open.

I don't like mine(old style with thumb screws) mounted to the frame becuase it scatches the frame up and I have to take it on and off to cover the boat.

I don't have any experience with the new bracket mount so I don't know if I prefer it or not.

I'm weighing my options right now and JasonK brings up a good point that I hadn't thought of, can the tower mounted mirror be mounted up high and then the mirror angled down. That would drive me nuts to always have the mirror in the way of what I should be looking at!

If you are asking about the Samson tower mirror, it is not in the way of frontal view, it sits high, you actually look upward to the mirror, it is a great option.

No, mine is solid, but mine is not hinged because I do not collapse my tower. A great mirror option that was worth the money for me.

Mines on the walkthru glass. Buddies is on tower. Either works well for seeing behind the boat. Why can't the std CIPA be slightly more convex to allow wider view? I've never understood that. The extreme is just to large for my taste.

Tracie, et al - this topic/poll is so very very old, and yet people still keep polling on it. At this point it's all pretty much null and void, perhaps it would be better to stop it.
