08 wakesetter VLX reading fault code

Recommended Posts

Hello,

So my 08 wakesetter VLX starting reading a code last fall for cylinder 5 misfire and Mechanical system not responding properly. I winterized it and just got it out. I replaced cap and rotor, plugs, and plug wires. I changed the oil and hooked up the Fake a Lake. Instantly it started reading service required and read the same codes. Anyone have any thoughts what it could be? ECU? Distributor? Thanks in advance!

What specific fault codes are there?  Usually an SPN :FNI format (SPN91:FMI4 for example).

Cylinder 5 misfire-

SPN 65595 CM0

Mech system not responding properly-

FMI 7 oc 4

so I also noticed that it says these codes even if I unplug batteries for a minute and hook them back up, it will read this code without  the motor even running, just turning key forward. Is there a way to reset the codes and see if it comes up again?

After fault SPN 65595 FMI 7 occurs on the MEFI5 ECM, the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will only turn off after 3 consecutive ignition/run cycles that the misfire diagnostic does not fail.  The misfire diagnosis only happens when the engine speed is between 600–6000 RPM, the ignition voltage is between 9–18 volts, and the throttle angle is steady or does not vary by more than approximately 5 percent.

An ignition/run cycle (also known as a heat cycle) is when the engine is started and run while the engine coolant temperature (ECT) is below about 100 degrees F, the engine continues to run until the ETC goes above about 130-140 degrees F, then the engine is stopped and not restarted until the ECT is below about 100 degrees F again.  That needs to occur 3 times before the MIL will turn off.

Otherwise, a laptop with Rinda Diacom and the adaptor/CAN cable or Rinda TechMate can be connected to the Diagnostic Link Connector (DLC) and used to clear the fault code.
