4 Prong to 5 Prong

Looking at buying a new car to tow the boat -- came across a Telluride that my wife likes and is rated for 5K lbs. which is more than enough to yank a Sporty a few times a year. Unlike most modern SUV/trucks that come with the circular trailer prong, the Telluride comes with the old school 4 prong. My question is, is that an easy fix to convert a 4 to a 5??? I probably wouldn't monkey with it but maybe the dealership could knock it out or take it over to UHaul. Thanks in advance.

I was going to suggest just getting the factory 7 pin adapter - but it looks like they recalled them all ;)

Is the Kia you’re looking at a new one?  I found a discussion from 2020 in a Telluride forum that described a 12 pin connector under the truck behind the spare tire that is what feeds the trailer hitch connector.  Pin 8 in that connector needs to be populated with a wire then you should be able to install a 5 pin or 7 pin round connector to give you what you need.

Thanks. We ended up passing on the Telluride -- later found out that the airbags had been deployed. Ended up going with a Honda Ridgeline which has the adapter built in. Hoping it can handle yanking the boat -- says 5000 towing. Boat dry plus trailer should be around 4000.
