Engine/transmission mount bolt maintenance

Recommended Posts

Another viable option besides split washers and nylock nuts are Nord-lock or wedge locking washers.  Personally, I just try to give the mounts a quick check when changing the oil and doing winterization.

Nothing quick about it. They are usually a real pain to get to.

This is a great topic. I check the shaft alignment every year when I winterize, and it is my least favorite task. Getting the two surfaces to be within 0.003 inches can be quite a fitful journey and can take hours. This is particularly true if you need to move the engine left or right to get the gap reduced on one side. Is there anywhere that has a detailed, step-by-step procedure for this, with pics or video, so the average boat owner can do this task efficiently? I have seen one video from Malibu where the mechanic talks about what to do while running a .003 feeler gauge around, but he does NOT show how to actually do any of the steps needed to bring the shafts into alignment. So pretty worthless IMO. If there isn't a good guide out there, maybe we can collaborate on one here.

I have a 2108 Malibu 21VLX with Indmar Monsoon 6.2L.
